This course involves studying how the media communicates meaning to audiences. You’ll develop practical and theoretical skills so that you can both analyse and create media productions. You’ll learn how to analyse television, film, newspapers and magazines, as well as use the latest technology to make your own film, video, web, radio or magazine productions.

This course deepens your understanding and appreciation of film, both practically and academically, and develops your creativity, observation and critical analysis skills. On the practical side, you’ll be introduced to professional script writing, directing, storyboarding, camera, digital video editing and performance techniques,
making a short movie in year two. Theory lessons will explore the effects of cinema on audiences,
film language, history, technology, marketing and business practice. Key topics are Hollywood and
world cinema, film narrative, style and performance.
