A word from the Proprietress
The Allan Deeds Memorial Library - Allan Deeds was the husband of the proprietress and had a big influence in the foundations and direction of the school for many years. Allan was an intellectual with boundless energy and humour and above all, great enthusiasm for educating others. He was instrumental in establishing admin procedures and responsible for teacher training. Sadly Allan passed away in June 2009 and is very sadly missed by family, staff and the school community.
In honour of our father who loved learning and inspiring learning in others, we are planning to build a memorial library in his name. Allan had collected 100s of books for the school while he was in the UK and was busy indexing and packing them ready for shipment up until the time he became ill.
These books will be the basis for the library. We will also build on our relationship with the Karatu Library project and other charities to expand the library and make sure as many children as possible can enjoy reading and learning. We hope to have it established by the end of 2010.
Secondary School
Plans are currently underway to open our secondary school in September 2010. We are recruiting staff and developing the secondary curriculum. Classrooms are being developed to cater for the more specialist needs of the secondary curriculum.
We are also fundraising to help us with the capital and on-going costs of this exciting new development.
Old boys and Girls Network
A great number of pupils have passed through our hands going on to great things all over Nigeria and internationally.
We are very proud of their continued achievements.
If you are an ex-pupil:
Do you have any photographs of your time at Play and Learn?
Can you contribute memories and anecdotes of your time here?
Do you want to give some of your time to help develop the Old Scholars network?
If so, we’d be very happy to hear from you.
