Arabic hip hop is hip hop music and culture originating in the Arabic-speaking world. It is performed in English, local Arabic dialects, Hebrew, and French. Like most artists of the genre, these artists are highly influenced by American hip hop and creative in their choice of topics and music, borrowing mainly the style.
Hip hop music is played on the radio stations and shown on TV stations in Arab countries, but performing it has begun only recently. A Palestinian group called DAM began the movement but in fact, the MWR (from Akko) released the first single in Arabic called "Ashanak Arabi"- (Because you an Arab). So MWR was the first to attempt to produce Arabic rap music in 1999 and their music was included in Arabrap.net's sampler CD that was released in 2003. Many of hip hop groups are still underground. Being critical about politics and expressing their views often incite government censure.
Other successful rappers, producers and DJs of Arabic origin are DJ Khaled (Terror Squad), Salah edin , Civalringz, Isam Bachiri (Outlandish), Army Of One, The Narcicyst and many others.
