Media Projects

Through the BTEC Media course I have created a documentary about issues around Shisha and the smoking ban this project enabled me to enhance my camera and editing skills. With this project I was fully committed in creating the documentary as I was the camera man. I had to be organised, meeting cast and crew outside of college to go and interview the Shisha smokers, workers and owners and this has advanced my interviewing skills and made me confident in creating vox pops. For the documentary we gained positive feedback from the audience that watched the documentary.

The music videos I have created were of different genres, for example a rap song and another was dance. In both music videos I have worked collaboratively together with my crew to produce a music video which enabled me to experiment further with camera and editing skills, recently this has included using Adobe After Effects. I have gained many skills that I will be using to help me through the course at university, such as communication skills, this been vital through all our projects specially when working on our documentary.

My interest lies in the technical part of the course because I have had great amount of experience through practical projects. Through animation we learnt many techniques such as stop motion; however, I made my animation in Flash independently adding sound effects and music. I appreciate the academic part of the course is equally important and I feel that through my research I have increasedmy knowledge about photographers, artists and film makers, some of my favourite being Gyula Halász and Spike Lee.

Outside of college I volunteer at my local mosque in Crickelwood. We film Islamic events on professional cameras and broadcast the events live on internet on the website www.imam-hussein.org. In the mosque we work as a team assisting each other with the knowledge we have to broadcast online. We also get help from more experienced people that have knowledge in the media sector.

For the big Islamic events we broadcast them live on famous Arabic TV channels such as Al Anwar and Alforat. When we broadcast for them we use their cameras and equipment this has developed our knowledge using professional equipment.
